Plain-language summary

You can request deletion from Settings when you have a verifiable account or guest identity. If you cannot access Settings, you may contact support for help verifying and submitting a deletion request.

Export anything you want to keep before deletion. After a verified deletion request, Poplous revokes active sessions and begins removing or anonymizing eligible account or guest-identity records.

Deletion may not remove records that Poplous must keep for safety, billing, fraud prevention, legal compliance, backups, or auditability.

Availability note: Deletion methods may vary by account type, guest session state, region, verification status, safety status, and operational requirements. Poplous provides a deletion path for verifiable accounts or guest identities.

Self-service deletion

You can request deletion from Settings when you have a verifiable account or guest identity.

If you cannot access the account or guest session, Poplous may provide a support-assisted deletion process if you can provide enough information to verify the request.

Deletion revokes ordinary account access, stops ordinary account use, removes or anonymizes eligible profile data, and ends active sessions tied to the account or guest identity, subject to retention exceptions.

Guest identity deletion

If you use Poplous as a guest, deletion may remove or reset the guest identity, session tokens, local preferences, guest profile data, matching state, and eligible service-side records connected to that guest identity.

Some safety, anti-abuse, block, fraud-prevention, device-risk, or legal records may remain where needed to prevent repeated abuse, enforce blocks or bans, investigate reports, or comply with law.

Verification before deletion

To prevent unauthorized deletion, Poplous may require proportionate verification before processing a deletion request. Verification may include an active session, recent login, email confirmation, passkey confirmation, billing reference, device-bound proof, or other reasonable evidence of control.

Poplous does not ask for more verification information than reasonably needed to confirm control of the account, guest identity, or billing relationship.

Export before deleting

Before deleting, export or save anything you need to keep, including saved journal content, receipts, or account information that you may need later.

Deletion may be irreversible after the confirmation or grace period expires.

Poplous may not be able to export or recover content that was ephemeral, expired, deleted, unsaved, or not associated with a verifiable account or guest identity.

What happens after deletion

After a verified deletion request, Poplous deactivates the account or guest identity and revokes active sessions promptly.

Poplous then deletes or anonymizes eligible live-system records within 30 days, unless a longer period is required for legal, safety, billing, fraud-prevention, dispute, backup, or audit reasons.

Poplous may remove login credentials, end active conversations, anonymize profile data, remove devices, clear ordinary preferences, and record that a deletion request was completed.

Poplous may show or send a deletion receipt, confirmation, or status update when a deletion request is received, completed, partially completed, or subject to a retention exception.

Grace period and final deletion

Poplous may offer a short recovery period after deletion is requested. During this period, ordinary account access is disabled and the account is not available for normal use.

If the deletion request is not canceled before the recovery period expires, Poplous begins final deletion or anonymization of eligible records.

Deletion may become irreversible once confirmed. Poplous may be unable to restore accounts, guest identities, saved content, entitlements, or historical session context after deletion is completed.

Deletion ledger

A deletion ledger may keep a minimal record of the request, timestamp, pseudonymous or hashed account reference, completion state, affected systems, and retention exception categories.

The deletion ledger is used to prove deletion handling, prevent accidental reactivation, support auditability, and prevent deleted records from being restored incorrectly.

Limited records that may remain

Poplous may retain records needed for reports, safety enforcement, child-safety escalation, NCMEC or legal reporting, fraud prevention, billing, refunds, disputes, taxes, accounting, legal compliance, security, backups, and audit logs.

Retained records are limited to what is reasonably needed for the specific safety, legal, billing, fraud-prevention, security, or audit purpose. These records are not kept for ordinary account use after deletion.

Retained records may be de-identified, anonymized, aggregated, hashed, tokenized, or limited to internal reference data where appropriate.

Deletion may not remove copies of messages, reports, journal entries, screenshots, or information that another user saved, copied, reported, or disclosed outside Poplous.

If Poplous cannot delete certain records because a retention exception applies, Poplous may keep only the necessary records and may record the reason, category, and expected retention trigger or period.

Subscriptions and billing

Deleting an account or guest identity does not automatically cancel a paid subscription unless the deletion flow expressly confirms subscription cancellation.

If you have an active subscription, cancel it through the billing portal or subscription management flow before or during deletion.

Poplous and payment processors may retain billing, invoice, refund, dispute, tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention records where required or permitted.

Processors and backups

Poplous propagates deletion requests to processors where required by law, supported by the processor, and applicable to the data involved.

Some processors keep records under their own legal, billing, fraud, or security obligations.

Backups and disaster recovery copies expire on their own schedules. Backup copies are not used for ordinary account activity. If deleted data is restored during disaster recovery, Poplous uses deletion records or tombstones to prevent improper reactivation where technically feasible.

Deleted data is not restored to active production use unless required for security, legal, disaster-recovery, or compliance reasons.

Deletion status and completion

Poplous may provide a receipt or status update after receiving a deletion request.

If deletion is completed, Poplous may confirm completion. If part of the request cannot be completed because of a retention exception, Poplous may identify the retained data category, reason, and expected retention basis where legally and operationally appropriate.

Legal holds and safety holds

Poplous may delay deletion or retain limited records when necessary for legal process, regulatory obligations, child-safety reporting, safety investigations, fraud prevention, disputes, account integrity, or enforcement of blocks, restrictions, suspensions, or bans.

When a hold applies, Poplous limits the retained data to the scope of the hold where reasonably possible.
